Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced for June

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of June 30th through July 6th:

New Britain Rock Cats outfielder/first baseman Reynaldo Rodriguez has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 30th-July 6th. The 28-year old batted .563 (9-for-16) with three doubles, two home runs, six RBI, five runs scored, three walks and a 1.125 slugging percentage in six games for the Rock Cats last week. Rodriguez, who is a native of Cartagena, Columbia, had at least one hit in all five games he started last week and had multiple hits in four of those games, including kicking off his week by hitting a pair of solo home runs in an 8-3 loss against Binghamton at New Britain Stadium last Monday. The 6'0", 195 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in batting average (.563), on-base percentage (.591), slugging percentage (1.125) and OPS (1.716) last week He also ranked among the weekly leaders in extra-base hits (5-tied 4th), doubles (3-tied 4th), total bases (18-5th), home runs (2-tied 5th), hits (9-tied 8th) and RBI (6-tied 9th). Reynaldo, who currently leads the league with 26 doubles and is ranked second in extra-base hits (41) and slugging percentage (.522) while hitting .316 with 14 homers, 56 runs scored and 42 RBI in 81 games for the Rock Cats this season, was signed by the Minnesota Twins as a Minor League free agent on December 7, 2012.

Tommy Collier, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Erie SeaWolves, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 30th-July 6th. The 6'2", 205 lb. hurler started one game for the SeaWolves last week and posted a record of 1-0 with four strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Collier, who is a native of Houston, Texas, made his lone appearance of the week on Saturday night in the opening game of a doubleheader at Binghamton and took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of Erie's 2-0 victory. The no-hitter was broken up on a single by Darrell Ceciliani with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Collier, who finished the game with four strikeouts and four walks, got the next batter to fly out to finish off the second complete game shutout of his career. The 24-year old was one of only two Eastern League pitchers to throw a complete game shutout last week and he led all Eastern League pitchers in batting average against (0.50) and tied for the lead in ERA (0.00). He also tied for seventh in WHIP (0.71). Tommy was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 22nd round of the 2011 draft after going 13-1 with 128 strikeouts and a 2.67 ERA in 16 games, 14 starts, during the 2011 season at San Jacinto College North in Texas.
