The Setup: Pigs Look to Avoid Sweep
August 9, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Indy has taken the first two games of the series but the Pigs have one more chance to avoid the sweep at 7:05 p.m.
PITCHING MATCHUP Tom Eshelman continues his resurgent second half against the top prospect in the Pirates system, Mitch Keller. The pitching matchup is presented by Allentown Family Foot Care, which provides the latest in medical and surgical treatments of the entire foot and ankle. Visit affc.com for more information.
Eshelman has found his groove over his last 10 starts. Although he has recorded just one win over that time, he has a 3.43 ERA during those starts. Last time out, Eshelman went seven innings, a complete game while allowing just three runs. Keller is the number one prospect in the Pirates system according to MLB Pipeline. The 22-year-old is a former second round pick in 2014 and was 9-2 prior to his promotion to Triple-A.
LAST GAME Pedro Beato (6-3) took over for the Pigs in the ninth with the game tied. Eric Wood led off the bottom of the frame with a double into the left-field corner. After a sacrifice bunt, the winning run was at third with one out. A single through the right-side by Jason Martin scored the winning run.
HEAD-TO-HEAD The Pigs have not been swept in a series since May against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Lehigh Valley has not lost more than three games in a row this season. It has only happened twice in April and once in May.
Last year in Indy, the Pigs were only able to muster one win against the Indians, taking the middle game of the three-game set. The two teams split the season series, each winning two games on their home turf and one on the road.
NEXT WEEK AT COCA-COLA PARK The Pigs are back in action at Coca-Cola Park August 13 when they take on the Durham Bulls. Monday is a TD Bank Dog Day where guests can bring their pets and enjoy $1 Berks hot dogs. We will also be celebrating Lacrosse Night and an appearance from the Phillie Phanatic presented by AARP. The 2018 Season is the IronPigs' 11th season at Coca-Cola Park and 11th as the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
