Charlotte Knights News Release
(SYRACUSE, NY) -- The Charlotte Knights and Syracuse Chiefs wrapped up their three-game series on Thursday by completing two games at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse, NY. In the end, each team came away with a one-run victory.
A night after game two of the series was suspended due to rain, the Knights earned a solid 2-1 win in Wednesday's game on Thursday. In the finale, the Knights dropped Thursday's originally scheduled contest by a score of 3-2. Overall, the Chiefs took two of three games in the series.
Outfielder Eloy Jiménez, who is ranked as the top prospect in the Chicago White Sox system, launched his ninth home run of the season with the Knights in Wednesday's game. It was his 19th overall home run in 2018 combined with his total from the Double-A Birmingham Barons from earlier this year. Shortstop José RondÃÅn added his team-high 15th home run of the season in the same inning, which led the Knights to the 2-1 win.
RHP Jordan Stephens started Wednesday's game and tossed four shutout innings before the game was suspended. He did not return for the resumption on Thursday, so he did not factor in the decision. RHP Ricardo Pinto (2-1, 4.35) earned the win after he tossed three solid innings out of the Charlotte bullpen. RHP Ian Hamilton notched his sixth save of the season.
In Thursday's regularly scheduled matchup, the Knights rallied late, but fell just short in the end to the Chiefs. RHP Asher Wojciechowski (5-7, 4.10) was saddled with the loss after he allowed three runs on five hits over 5.1 innings pitched. Jiménez and outfielder Ryan Cordell had RBI singles in the game.
The Knights will now make the trek to Rochester, NY to open a three-game series against the Rochester Red Wings on Friday night from Frontier Field. Pre-game radio coverage of Friday's 7:05 p.m. game is set for 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action.
