Pigs Swept in Indy
August 9, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
For the first time since mid-May, the Pigs found themselves on the wrong end of a sweep.
The Indianapolis Indians completed the three-game sweep on Thursday with a 3-1 final at Victory Field. The Pigs never lead during the series.
Fortunately, Lehigh Valley still holds their commanding nine-game lead in the IL-North division
The Indians pressured Tom Eshelman (2-11) in the first inning, forcing the right-hander to toss 32 pitches, but Tom eventually escaped with only one run scored. Eshelman returned to form from there and faced the minimum through the next four innings, but fell behind in the sixth, allowing the eventual game-winning run on a Pablo Reyes single.
The Indians capped the night with an insurance run in the eighth off of Edubray Ramos.
Lehigh Valley had their offense stymied the entire night, scattering only four hits through the nine innings against top Pirates prospect Mitch Keller (1-2). The lone run came in the second inning following a leadoff single by Joey Meneses. Zach Green brought the runner home two batters later with a towering double that fell about six inches shy of being a two-run home run.
The Pigs will look ahead to another West Division foe tomorrow when they make the trip down to Kentucky to face the Louisville Bats for the final time this season. First pitch from game one will come at 7:00 p.m. as Ranger Suarez climbs the hill for Lehigh Valley.
Fans can see the Pigs at Coca-Cola Park again on August 13th when the Durham Bulls visit Allentown.
