Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, PA - It has been five years since our favorite Scranton paper company ended their documentary. That seems very hard to believe, and still, rumors of a reboot have sparked our creativity. On September 1, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will host "The Office" Night at PNC Field. The RailRiders, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, play host to the Pawtucket Red Sox in the final home game of the 2018 regular season with gates at 5 p.m. and a first pitch set for 6:35.
The first 2,500 fans through the gates will receive their very own Dundie Award bobblehead for being the Very Best Fans in Baseball, presented by Red Robin. Robert Shafer, the actor who portrayed Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration, will make an appearance to throw out a first pitch and sign autographs.
The September 1 game will also serve as the club's Stand Up To Cancer Night, helping raise funds and awareness for cancer research. As it did during the 2017 Triple-A National Championship Game, play will halt for a moment during the game as fans and players alike stop to hold placards indicating who they stand up for in the fight against cancer.
The evening will begin with a pre-game fanfest outside of PNC Field. Join the RailRiders as they say "Goodbye, 2018" with live music, carnival games and special appearances.
Throughout the course of the night, select fans in attendance will participate in the Office Olympics- competing in such famed events as Flonkerton, a Pie Eating Contest and The Stickler- all to win a yogurt lid gold medal!
A variety of photo stations inspired by the classic television show will be set up around the concourse.
The RailRiders are giving away a mini-fridge, courtesy of Fireball, as part of an Office Bar Crawl with four designated stops around the ballpark needed to win.
Think you look like Michael, Dwight, Jim, Pam, Stanley, Phyllis or any of "The Office" staff? Be sure to have your picture taken inside the homeplate gate off the Geisinger Plaza for a chance to participate in our look-alike contest. Make sure you dress the part for your best chance to win.
The RailRiders will also hold a Dundie Award presentation during the game to honor our great fans and community.
Leading up to September 1, RailRiders fans can nominate and vote for friends, families, co-workers (of course) and people that they think they know for one of the following nine Dundie Community Awards:
Longest Engagement (winner gets married during the game!)
Electric City Award for Community Spirit
Jim & Pam Award (cutest couple)
Best Receptionist
Best News Anchor
Best Beat Writer (or beet writer if you know someone who fits that category)
Best Radio Station
Best Pizza Place
World's Best Boss
Registration forms will be available at the University of Scranton Guest Services, in the front office during regular business hours and online at swbrailriders.com starting Monday. Voting will also be taking place on the RailRiders website with the top three finalists from each category receiving free tickets to the game. The nomination process begins on August 13 and ends on August 22. The finalists will be announced on August 22 with voting for the winners taking place from August 23 to 27. The winners of the Dundie Community Awards will be announced on September 1 during the game.
The final fireworks show of the season will follow the final out, presented by Maines Food and Party Warehouse.
Tickets for "The Office" Night or any remaining 2018 home game are available now online at swbrailriders.com, stopping by the E-Auto Box Office at PNC Field or by calling(570) 969-BALL.
Best night ever... That's what we said!
