THIS DAY IN RED WINGS HISTORY

1933- The Rochester Red Wings absorbed two losses against the Newark Bears, 8-5 and 7-2. The losses drop the Wings to a tie for second place with Baltimore.

THIS DAY IN INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE HISTORY

1998- The International League becomes the first National Association League to draw 5 million fans in a single season. Bolstered by the Triple-A realignment and expansion that gave the League 14 clubs, the IL shatters Minor League Baseball's all-time attendance record for a single season in 1998. Large crowds in Columbus, Norfolk, Ottawa, Rochester, and Toledo, plus attendances in excess of 10,000 in Buffalo and Indianapolis push the League over the 5 million mark on this historic August day. Less than three weeks later the IL will reach the once unthinkable total of 6 million fans, ultimately finishing the season with a League-wide attendance of 6,481,906. Buffalo set the IL's alltime attendance record for a club, drawing 768,749 fans in 1998.
