Evansville Otters News Release
WOW! The Otters only have 12 more home games and we hope to see you at Bosse Field enjoy the last few days of summer. The team returns home on August 14th to take on the visiting Lake Erie Crushers. This will be the Crushers first visit to Evansville as they are one of the newest teams to join the Frontier League.
For those of you who made it out to our last home stand then you got to witness one of the oddest home stands I have ever been a part of. We started the six games off by playing a late game starting at 10:35pm. Rains swept into the Tri-State at around 6:45pm on Thursday and the field quickly started collecting water so the game never started due to rain. The Otters won both games of the double header on Friday; however, that wouldn't be the only double header of the six-game home stand. On Saturday, August 1st as the Otters put 8 runs on the board in the 1st inning severe storms swept into Evansville and the clouds unleashed on Bosse Field. The front office staff and many fans witnessed their first blackout at Bosse Field as lightening struck nearby and causing Bosse Field to go dark. All fans and staff did exit safely thanks to the flashlights and candles guiding the way to the main gates. The Otters resumed the game on Sunday winning 8-4 and then winning the second game too to have an 8-0 record in double-headers. Let's hope for clear skies and nice weather as the Otters return home on August 14th.
The Henderson County Chamber of Commerce will be out enjoying the sights and sounds of Bosse Field on Friday, August 14th as they sponsor the game that evening. The team will be excited to be playing in front of home town fans again as they are completing a 10 game road trip to Rockford, Sauget, and Ypsilanti.
On Saturday, August 15th the Otters will be knocking breast cancer out of the park as we have teamed up with Accuride to present "Breast Cancer Awareness Night". Otters players will once again wear pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game with all jersey proceeds going towards the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. New this year the Otters will also be selling autographed pink hats and autographed pink mini-bats with half of those proceeds going towards the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. In addition, the first thousand women through the gates will receive black and pink re-usable tote bag compliments of Accuride.
In 2009 alone an estimated 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer will occur in women in the United States alone. However, women are not the only ones affected by this disease about 1,910 men will be diagnosed and 440 men will die from breast cancer in 2009. Breast cancer affects everyone from those battling the cancer to the emotion, mental and physical toll it takes on family and friends too. This is why the Evansville Otters and Accuride continue to partner together for the "Breast Cancer Awareness Night" and why your help will continue to raise needed funds for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure so they can continue to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all, and energize science to find the cures.
Families with young children are invited to Napoleon Peacock's Baseball Party on Sunday, August 16th starting at 4-5:30pm located on the front lawn of Bosse Field. The Otter Pup Gang members will get to enjoy ice cream sundaes starting at 5:30pm in the Kenny Kent Café Concourse. The Otters will enjoy a league off day on Monday but will return to action at Bosse Field with CJ's Bus Night on Tuesday, August 18th.
As the season starts to wrap up there are still many exciting nights taking place at the Otters this summer. Fans can look forward to rocking a grass skirt and lei with as Bosse Field turns into Evansville version of Margaritaville with a Jimmy Buffett theme night on August 19th. Other upcoming nights are Girl Scout night with the Otters, Head Start Family Night, Ivy Tech Night, and Custom Recreation Fan Appreciation Night.
