Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti News Release
The Traverse City Beach Bums scored six runs in the 8th and 9th inning to steal a victory from the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti 7-6. Midwest was up 6-1 heading into the 8th, but the bullpen couldn't hold on.
Midwest built the lead mostly thanks to Robbie Knapp and Joash Brodin who drove in three runs a piece. Brodin had a single, double, and triple in his first three at bats.
Mike Penn threw a tremendous seven innings of work only allowing one run through the first seven. The eighth inning Penn couldn't record an out before loading the bases. Earl Oakes came on to strike out the side not before giving up a grand slam to cut the Sliders lead to 7-6.
Arshwin Asjes entered the game in the ninth for his tenth save of the season. Two walks, and two doubles gave the Bums the lead, and Asjes his first loss of the season.
The newest Slider Jonathan Castro from the Dominican Republic had a strong first game going 2-3, scored, had a sac bunt, and walked.
Friday the Sliders travel to Avon Ohio to face the Lake Erie Crushers at 5:35 p.m. The Sliders are currently third in the East Division 5.5 games back of Lake Erie coming into the night.
