Texas tops Mississippi 5-2

The Texas Brahmas scored three power play goals in the third period to defeat the Mississippi RiverKings tonight 5-2 at the NYTEX Sports Centre.

With the win, the Brahmas (27-18-1) moved to within one point of the RiverKings (27-18-2) for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Central Hockey League's Northern Conference.

Justin Kinnunen, Anders Strome, and Mark Carragher all scored in the final stanza with the man-advantage to give the Brahmas' their sixth straight win. The RiverKings have now lost four straight.

The Brahmas' all-time leading scorer gave the RiverKings a 2-1 late in the second period. Chad Woollard scored with 2:04 remaining to give Mississippi their first lead of the night. However, Jordan Cameron came right back with 1:49 left in the second to tie the game.

It took just 3:28 for the Brahmas to take a 1-0 lead, as Strome scored his first power play goal of the night. The RiverKings tied the game on a power play with 1:58 to go in the first thanks to Ryan Held.

Brett Jaeger made 46 saves for the Brahmas. Ian Keserich stopped 28 shots for the RiverKings.

The RiverKings return to the DeSoto Civic Center to take on the Wichita Thunder on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ.

Meanwhile, the RiverKings and Tropical Smoothie Cafe on Hacks Cross Road in Olive Branch will have their previously scheduled "sign-and-dine" on Monday from 6 p.m. to 7:30.
