
Bucks Sting Bees Again: Win 4-1

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 4-1 Saturday night, in front of 5,129 fans at the Dodge Arena.
With the win the Bucks completed a very successful 3-0 road trip, to improve their overall record to 33-15-3 (69pts).
The Bucks picked up right where they left off in Corpus on Friday night, taking a 2-0 after the first period.
Laredo took a 1-0 lead 3:18 into the game, as Derek Legault slipped a loose puck past Bees goaltender A.J Bucchino. It was Legault's second goal of the year, with Matt Summers picking up the assist. Legault's goal came on the Bucks first official shot of the night. Bucchino was making his first appearance of the season in net against Laredo.
The Bucks made it 2-0 with just 2:30 left in the period as they struck on the power-play. Summers sent a backhanded rebound in from the left side of the crease past Buccchino. Steve Weidlich and Paul Elliott picked up assists on Summers goal, which was his ninth of the campaign.
Laredo outshot Rio in the opening 20 minutes, 13-8.
The Bucks would increase their lead to 4-1 after two periods, as they tallied twice in the second period.
Laredo would make it 3-0 6:15 into the period, when Elliott scored his fourth goal of the season, as sent a slap shot from the slot past Bucchino. David Walker and Chris Korchinski picked up assists for the Bucks.
Rio would get on the board just 45 seconds later, when Travis Banga scored off of a backhanded rebound from the right side of the crease past Bucks goaltender Dustin Traylen. It was Banga's 19th goal of the season.
The Bucks would increase their lead to 4-1 with 9:30 left in the period, when Jeff Bes stole the puck in the Killer Bee end and went in all by himself on Bucchino, faking the goaltender out, then slipping the puck by into the back of the net. It was Bes' 37th goal of the season, and his CHL-leading 83rd point.
Laredo outshot Rio in the second period 14-12, but came up empty on two power-plays.
The third period was scoreless as niether team lit the lamp, with Rio outshooting Laredo 11-5. Overall for the game the two teams each put up 32 shots.
Traylen stopped 31 of 32 Killer Bees shots, to improve to 18-7-2 in the net for Laredo, while A.J Bucchino set aside 28 of 32 Bucks shots to fall to 0-3.
The Bucks will be back in action Thursday February 21st when they host the Odessa Jackalopes at the LEC on Taco Palenque Fiesta Night. The first 2,000 fans will receive Thunder Stix Courtesy of Taco Palenque. There will also be Pinatas, baloons, and a Mariachi band at the game.
