Corpus Christi IceRays News Release
Justin Quenneville's two goal night helped the Rayz get past the Odessa Jackalopes to end their four-game losing streak. The win puts Corpus Christi just two points behind the Amarillo Gorillas for the final playoff spot in the Southern Conference and back into second place in their division. Corpus Christi will return to the American Bank Center on Friday, February 22nd for their fourth-annual âPack the House for Chairty Night.' Tickets are still available. For more information, please call the Rayz at 361.814.PUCK.
The Jackalopes got things started first, 4:51 into the first period. Alex Dunn beat a diving Jason Tapp to notch the first Odessa goal. Assists came via Dominic Leveille and Sebastien Thinel. The Rayz would answer at 8:34 when ex-Jackalope, Jay Latulippe, found Justin Quenneville in the slot to tie things at 1-1. Nick Lindberg was accredited with the other assist.
In the middle frame, Corpus Christi's defense stepped up and allowed only 4 shots on goal. The Rayz offense would also do some stepping up of their own. At 7:10 into the second period, Joe Blaznek fed Jon Jankus who broke away from two Jackalope defenders and shot the puck off the crossbar and in. The Rayz took their 2-1 lead into the second intermission.
Corpus Christi got things started quickly in the third period. At 3:11, Justin Quenneville scored his second goal when he sneaked a shot past Alexandre Vincent. Lindberg and Latulippe got the helpers and Corpus Christi would take a 3-1 lead. Odessa would chip away at the Rayz lead at 15:46. Oliver Proulx slipped the puck under the pads of Jason Tapp as he attempted to cover. Dominic Leveille and Chris Brannen tallied the assists as the Jackalopes would come within 1 goal. However, it wasn't enough, and the Rayz would hang on for the 3-2 win.
The Jackalopes outshot the Rayz 41-31. Corpus Christi went 1-2 on the power play and Odessa also went 1-2. Jason Tapp made 39 saves on 41 shots taking the win. Odessa goaltender Alexandre Vincent took the loss making 28 saves on 31 shots.
