[AMARILLO, Tex.]-The Scorpions fell in Amarillo Saturday night 7-2. The loss was the fifth straight on the road for New Mexico.

Amarillo got out to a great start with three first period goals. Marcus Reszka's shot deflected off a Scorpions player and into the net for a power play goal at the 14:17 mark. The Gorillas power play struck again as Bill Vandermeer scored a wraparound goal two minutes later. David Nimmo found the five-hole open at the 17:34 mark of the opening frame for his 26th goal of the season.

Amarillo built their lead again early in the second period. Vandermeer picked up his second goal of the game at the 1:33 mark.

The Scorpions grabbed their first goal of the game with an odd-man break. Dominic Osman fed Konrad Reeder who tipped it into the net.

Another Scorps power play was cut short and back to the man advantage went Amarillo. Nimmo lifted the puck up and into the Scorpions net for his second goal of the game. New Mexico responded three minutes later when Reeder tipped a Chris Robertson pass into the open net at the 11:24 mark of the second period.

Two more insurance goals for Amarillo came in the third period. Austin Sutter added the fourth power play goal of the night for the home team at 9:48 of the final period. Nimmo picked up a hat trick with a breakaway goal.

New Mexico returns home Sunday afternoon to face the Colorado Eagles. The game starts at 3:15 p.m. with a "Skate with the Scorps" following the game. Free skate rentals will be provided courtesy of Blades Multiplex Arenas. The game can be heard on 1050 KTBL.
