Austin Ice Bats News Release

(Austin, TX) - After being stunned by Rio Grande on Friday night, the Ice Bats welcomed the league's top team, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, to Chaparral Ice Arena on Saturday. The Bats needed to bring their A-game against the top ranked Mudbugs, and played very well, but could not get the job done against Bossier. 3-0 was the final score.

It was a scoreless first period between the two clubs, but the Mudbugs outshot the Bats 14-6 in the opening frame.

In the second period the Mudbugs broke the scoreless tie on a goal from Tyrel Lucas. Ryan Fairbarn and Daniel Pegoraro added the assists. That was the only goal of the second frame. The Mudbugs led 1-0 at the end of two.

In the third both teams went back and forth, but a late power play goal by the Mudbugs shut the door on Austin. Joe Ori made the score 2-0. Kevin Cooper added an empty net goal with under a minute to go to make the final score 3-0, Mudbugs.

Next up the Bats head to Bossier-Shreveport for a Sunday matinee against the Mudbugs. The puck drops at 4:00 PM and the game can be heard on 1530 ESPN Austin and espnaustin.com.

The Ice Bats are the AA Affiliate for the NHL's Minnesota Wild and the AHL's Houston Aeros (AAA). The team is currently playing its 12th season in Austin. Single game tickets and mini-plans are available by calling 512-927-7825 or visiting icebats.com.
