Texas Stars News Release

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, announced on Thursday the 2011-12 AHL regular season schedule.

For the first time in team history Texas will open its regular season at Cedar Park Center on Sunday, October 9th at 5:00 pm against the Oklahoma City Barons. The Stars had opened each of the first two seasons on the road in San Antonio. The Stars will play their first road game on Saturday, October 15th at 7:00 PM in Oklahoma City, helping the Barons open the Cox Convention Center for the 2011-12 season. In all, Texas will play 38 home games and 38 road games over the course of the 76-game regular season.

Texas will renew its in-state rivalry with 24 combined games against the Houston Aeros and San Antonio Rampage in 2011-12. The Stars will host each rival six times at home over the course of the year and also visit both rivals six times apiece during the regular season. Houston and Texas will see each other the most in late November. From the 18th to the 26th, the teams will play a total of four games out of five against each other. After going 3-6-2-1 against the Aeros last season, the Stars are 11-9-2-2 against Houston all-time. With 24 regular season meetings over two years, Texas has played Houston more than any other team in the AHL.

Aside from Houston, the Stars have played the second most franchise games against another in-state rival, the San Antonio Rampage. When the Stars and Rampage meet on October 20th at Cedar Park Center, it will mark the 23rd regular season game between the two clubs. Texas has dominated the all-time series, posting a 6-2-0-2 record last year and a 14-6-0-2 record over the previous two seasons combined.

Texas will continue its rivalry with Oklahoma City, playing the Barons ten times over the course of the year. The Stars and Barons met ten times in 2010-11, with Texas winning the season series after posting a 6-3-0-1 mark against the AHL Affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. In all, 34 of the Stars regular season games will be against division foes Houston, San Antonio or Oklahoma City.

To complete the West Division schedule, the Stars will see the Abbotsford Heat a total of eight times in the 2011-12 season. Texas only played Abbotsford a total of eight times combined in the team's first two AHL seasons. The Stars are 4-3-0-1 all-time against the Heat, including a 2-1-0-1 record against Abbotsford in 2010-11. This year will mark the first time Texas and Abbotsford have played in the same division.

The Stars will see every team in the Western Conference throughout the course of the regular season. Former West Division rivals; Chicago, Peoria, Milwaukee and Rockford will play their first season in the AHL's Midwest Division. The Charlotte Checkers were shifted from the Eastern Conference into the newly formed Midwest Division. The Stars will host each Midwest Division team twice, as well as visit each team for two games.

To wrap up the Western Conference breakdown, the Stars will also meet all five teams from the North Division; composed of the Grand Rapids Griffins, Hamilton Bulldogs, Lake Erie Monsters, Rochester Americans and the Toronto Marlies. Texas will play four games apiece (2 home, 2 away) against Grand Rapids and Lake Erie. The Stars will also play one game at home and one away against both Hamilton and Toronto. For the first time in AHL history, the Stars will play the Rochester Americans. The teams will each host a home game in the two-game season series. Rochester is the second longest tenured team in the AHL behind the Hershey Bears. The Americans enter their 56th season in the AHL this fall.

Texas will host its longest home stand of the season starting on March 7th with Grand Rapids at Cedar Park Center and ending on March 19th with the Abbotsford Heat. In all, Texas will play seven straight games at Cedar Park Center over a 12-day stretch. The Stars two longest road trips of the season stretch a span of four games. Texas will visit Rockford, Peoria, Chicago and Milwaukee from October 25th to October 30th. The team will also visit Grand Rapids, Milwaukee, Chicago and Rockford from January 13th to January 18th.

Texas will play three preseason games starting on Friday, September 30 at 7:30 PM with the San Antonio Rampage visiting the Cedar Park Center. The team will then visit the Rampage on Saturday, October 1 at 3:00 PM in San Antonio. The game will be played at the Ice Center at Northwoods in San Antonio. Texas will round out its preseason schedule by hosting the Houston Aeros at 5:00 pm at Cedar Park Center.

The Texas Stars will host Opening Night at Cedar Park Center on Sunday, October 9th. Tickets for Opening Night as well as all 38 home games will go on sale at a future date. The Texas Stars will announce a promotional schedule for the 2011-12 season in the near future.
