Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... *The Rochester Americans announced today their regular season schedule for the 2011-12 American Hockey League season. The Amerks will open their 56th AHL season - and 30th as the affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres - on the road against the Hamilton Bulldogs at Copps Coliseum on Saturday, October 8 at 7 p.m. Rochester will then host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the team's Home Opener at The Blue Cross Arena on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7:05 p.m.

All AHL teams will play a 76-game regular season schedule, including 38 home games and 38 road games. New Head Coach Ron Rolston and the Amerks will play the vast majority of their home games on weekends, with 17 Friday home games, seven Saturday home dates and five Sunday home outings. The team will also host four games on Wednesdays, three on Thursdays and two on Tuesdays.

The start times for Amerk home games will change only slightly from last season. All Friday and Saturday home games this season will begin at 7:35 p.m. while home games played Monday through Thursday will start at 7:05 p.m. Sunday outings will begin at either 5:05 p.m. or 6:05 p.m.

The Amerks, who will remain in the North Division of the Western Conference, will play 15 of the AHL's 30 teams over the course of the 2011-12 season. Joining Rochester in the North Division are Grand Rapids, Hamilton, Lake Erie and Toronto. The Amerks will face Hamilton and Toronto 10 times apiece (five home, five road) and will play Grand Rapids and Lake Erie six times each (three home, three road).

Rochester's schedule is highlighted with games against both traditional rivals and unfamiliar foes. The longest rivalry in the AHL will be renewed as the Amerks and Hershey Bears are slated to play twice; the teams will face off in Hershey on Sunday, Jan. 8 and will play in Rochester on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The Amerks will be facing two teams for the first time ever, with two games against the Texas Stars (Dec. 17 at TEX; Feb. 10 vs. TEX) and four meetings with the Oklahoma City Barons (Dec. 27 and Dec. 28 at OKC; Jan. 19 and Jan. 20 vs. OKC).

Other home games of interest include the first of four visits from the defending Calder Cup Champion Binghamton Senators (Friday, Nov. 11), a home date with the Albany Devils the Friday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 25), a holiday season meeting with the Hamilton Bulldogs (Friday, Dec. 30), back-to-back home games with the Abbotsford Heat (Thursday, Feb. 2 and Friday, Feb. 3), a Saturday meeting with the San Antonio Rampage (Feb. 11) and the regular season home finale on Friday, Apr. 13 against Syracuse.

The Amerks' longest homestand of the season will take place from Nov. 6 to Nov. 18 when they play five straight games at The Blue Cross Arena, beginning with a game against the rival Syracuse Crunch on Sunday, Nov. 6 and continuing with visits from the Binghamton Senators (Nov. 11), Grand Rapids Griffins (Nov. 12), another game with Syracuse (Nov. 16) and concluding with the Toronto Marlies on Friday, Nov. 18. Rochester's longest road trip is also five games and will take them through Adirondack (Dec. 10) and Hamilton (Dec. 11) before shifting to the state of Texas for three games in three days against the San Antonio Rampage (Dec. 16), Texas Stars (Dec. 17) and Houston Aeros (Dec. 18).

As a result of the league's efforts to eliminate four-games-in-five-nights sequences and increase weekend games, the 2011-12 Amerks schedule contains a total of 16 back-to-back sets and 10 sets of three-games-in-three nights.

Rochester's busiest months this season will be December and March, playing 13 games in each of those months. December features a heavy road schedule, with nine of the 13 games taking place outside of Rochester. In March, seven of the Amerks' 13 games will be played within the friendly confines of The Blue Cross Arena. The busiest month for home games will be February, with nine of 12 games being held in downtown Rochester. The Amerks will also play seven home contests in both November and March. The regular season closes on Saturday, Apr. 14 in Lake Erie.

Amerks full season tickets in any seat location at The Blue Cross Arena are available for just $10 per game, giving fans the opportunity to watch all 38 Amerks home games from the same seat for a total of $380. The Amerks are also offering half-season packages at a rate of $12 per ticket ($228 total), while 10-packs can be purchased at $14 per seat ($140 total).
