Worcester Sharks Release 2011-12 Regular Season Schedule

WORCESTER, MA - Worcester Sharks President Michael A. Mudd released today, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, the Worcester Sharks 2011-12 regular season schedule. The Sharks home opener will be on Saturday, October 15th vs. the Albany Devils at 7:00p.m. at the DCU Center.

Worcester will commence the 2011-12 season with a battle against their Route 146 rival, the Bruins, in Providence, on Sunday, October 9 before returning home to the DCU Center for a battle against the Albany Devils with a 7p.m. tilt on Saturday, October 15.

"We pride ourselves on providing families with weekend entertainment and this schedule does exactly that," said Mudd. "Over 80 % of our home dates are on the weekend. We are extremely excited about the upcoming season and look forward to continue to build our fan support through central Massachusetts. Sharks hockey really is for everyone."

As part of its belief that Sharks hockey belongs to the community and people that live in it, the new season long slogan "SHARKS HOCKEY IS FOR EVERYONE" is designed to highlight the importance of the Worcester Sharks as a responsible partner to our fans, the community, and further the game of hockey. This isn't just an advertising slogan, it's an organizational direction. As the hockey season approaches, fans will see many initiatives' that engage and educate the people of central Massachusetts. More information will be released as the season approaches.

Thirty-two of the 38 Sharks home games will be played on the weekends with 22 of the 32 occurring on either Saturdays or Sundays. The Sharks will host 10 Friday home games this season with a start time of 7:30 p.m. Fifteen home games will take place in 2011 and 23 in 2012.

The Sharks will host their new Atlantic Division opponent; the St. John's Ice Caps, on four occasions (Nov 1, Nov 5, Jan 22, Apr 13). Worcester will square off against Atlantic Division rival, the Providence Bruins, for six home games, with all six dates falling during Friday, Saturday, or Sunday (Nov 13, Jan 7, Jan 21, Feb 24, Mar 10, Mar 16). The defending Calder Cup Champions, the Binghamton Senators, will visit the DCU Center on December 3 for their only visit to Worcester.

This season, the Sharks will play 10 sets of three games in three nights and will not play any four game in five night scenarios. Worcester will host a season long six game home stand Oct 29 through November 13 and embark on a season long eight game road trip on December 4-18 which includes their first ever trip to St. John's on December 9 and 11.

The team has planned several exciting promotions throughout the season; including bobblehead giveaways, sports celebrity signings, $5 Kids Sundays, four high school hockey double headers, and much, much, more.

The Sharks promotional schedule is expect to be finalized within the next few weeks and will be posted on www.SharksAHL.com.
