Toronto Marlies News Release

A proud member of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies announced today their 76 game 2011-12 regular season schedule which begins on Saturday, October 8 versus the 2011 Calder Cup Champion Binghamton Senators at the Broome County Arena at 7:05 p.m.

Weekend games dominate the Marlies home schedule this season as the team will play 29 of their 38 home games on weekend dates. The home schedule predominantly features Saturday games, of which there are 16 dates at Ricoh Coliseum. The Marlies will also play 10 Sunday home games and three on Friday night. Remaining home games are comprised of four games on Wednesday, three on Tuesday and two on Monday.

The Marlies will play their home opener on Saturday, October 15 against the Lake Erie Monsters, AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, at 3:00 p.m. On Monday, December 26, the Marlies will host the Hamilton Bulldogs at Air Canada Centre. The Marlies will play their lone game of the season at Air Canada Centre against their division rivals at 3:00 p.m. Toronto will play three school days games during the 2011-12 regular season. Toronto's school day games will be on February 8 vs. Rochester, March 7 vs. Binghamton and March 21 vs. Lake Erie, with each game beginning at 11:00 a.m. Toronto will host the Monsters on February 20 (Family Day) at Ricoh Coliseum at 1:00 p.m.

The Marlies play their longest homestand from February 4 to February 26, which includes 10 straight games on home ice. The Marlies 10-game home stretch begins with a contest against their former division rivals, the Abbotsford Heat. The club's longest road trip of the season will take place at the end of October. The nine-game road trip will see the club face seven teams from the Western Conference and two teams from the Eastern Conference. The trip begins with back-to-back games in Cleveland against the Monsters and finishes in Rochester on November 18.

In all, the Marlies take on 18 of 29 potential opponents; tied for the most of all the league's teams, in the AHL's 76th season. The Marlies will play the Hamilton Bulldogs, a total of 12 times, the most of any 2011-12 opponents (six in each city). The Marlies face their other division rivals Rochester and Lake Erie on 10 occasions (five in each city) and play Grand Rapids a total of eight times (four in each city). The Marlies will play the St. John's IceCaps, AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets, a total of eight times (four in each city) during the regular season. Toronto travels to St. John's, Newfoundland for the first time on Friday, November 25 for a 7:30 p.m. contest at Mile One Centre. The Marlies will host the IceCaps at Ricoh Coliseum for the first time on Sunday, December 4 at 1:00 p.m.

The Marlies will close-out the 2011-12 regular season schedule by traveling to Abbotsford for back-to-back games against the Heat in April.
