Texas Stars News Release
Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (15-4-2-2, 34 points) defeated the Milwaukee Admirals (9-6-1-3, 22 points) 2-1 in a shootout on Wednesday night in front of 5,698 fans at Cedar Park Center. Texas goalie Matt Climie (5-2-2-2) held Milwaukee scoreless for the first 58:52 of play and then shutdown the Admirals the rest of the way for the win. Climie finished with 32 saves through regulation and stuffed all four Admirals in the shootout to preserve his first shootout victory of the year. Texas Stars forward Warren Peters and defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy both scored in the shootout to give the Stars an 8-1-1-1 mark at Cedar Park Center. Texas right wing Ray Sawada scored the team's lone-regulation goal. Milwaukee goalie Chet Pickard stopped 23 of 24 in regulation and two of the four Stars attempts in the shootout loss. The Stars and Admirals will play again on Friday at 7:30 pm at the Cedar Park Center.
After a scoreless first period, Stars right wing Raymond Sawada netted his first goal of the season 8:29 into the middle period, giving Texas a 1-0 lead. Sawada scored on a rebound from defenseman Trevor Ludwig, beating Admirals goalie Chet Pickard on the glove side for the game's opening goal.
Texas carried the lead until Milwaukee countered with 1:08 remaining in the third period. Forward Dave Scatchard snapped a wrist shot past Stars goalie Matt Climie for the game-tying goal, his seventh goal of the year. Scatchard's tally sent the game to overtime tied 1-1.
After a scoreless overtime, the teams skated to a shootout. Texas goalie Matt Climie stopped all four Admirals attempts. After two failed attempts, the Stars struck for the win with defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy and center Warren Peters sealing the 2-1 win.
Prior to the game, the Stars added goalie Charlie Effinger from the Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League. In six games with the Americans, Effinger is 4-2-0 with a 2.34 goals against average and a.925 save percentage. The second-year goalie attended training camp with Texas and was signed earlier in the season. He did not see game action in his earlier stint this season.
Texas will host the Milwaukee Admirals on Friday, November, 27th at 7:30. Cedar Park Center will host College Discount Night, providing $2.00 domestic drafts and a discount to fans that present a college ID. The first 3,000 fans will receive a Texas Stars t-shirt.
