Matt Pettinger and Dan Sexton both earned two points to carry the Moose over the Rockford IceHogs 2-1 on Wednesday night in front of 3,522 fans at the MetroCentre. Pettinger scored two goals in his first game back after being re-assigned by the Canucks and Sexton earned two helpers in his Moose debut. Cory Schneider stopped 35 of 37 shots in his 10th win this season.

At 8:09 Geoff Waugh and Bryan Bickell squared off to the right of Schneider's net. Both players swung a few solid punches, but Waugh ended up at the bottom when both attackers fell to the ice. When they were back on their skates, they were both handed five-minute fighting majors.

Manitoba earned the first powerplay of the game when Ryan Flinn was penalized for roughing at 12:17. Ranked 27th in the league on the PP, the Moose failed to notch a point during the two-minute advantage and play resumed to even-strength.

By the end of the first frame, the IceHogs were outshooting the Moose 11-6, but both teams held onto their goose-eggs heading into the second period.

The Moose and IceHogs exchanged penalties in the early half of the second period but neither team capitalized on their respective man-advantages. At 14:42 Rockford opened the scoring. With an assist from former Moose Mark Cullen, Kyle Greentree topped the puck on Schneider to put his home team in a one-goal lead.

Bickell drew a double-minor for high-sticking at 4:49 of the third to give the Moose their fifth powerplay. Matt Pettinger, in his first game back from the Canucks, wristed the puck from inside the red circle to knot the game at one on the advantage.

Despite trailing in the shot department, 32-20, the Moose managed to take the lead. Pettinger received a pass in front of the net, courtesy of Brian Salcido, and potted his second of the night by beating Alec Richards on his glove side.

The IceHogs battled to score a tying goal, outshooting the Moose 37-21, but the clock ran out and the Moose beat Rockford, 2-1.
