Abbotsford Heat News Release

PEORIA ILL - The Abbotsford Heat set out on a four game road trip and broke a three game losing streak in the process, as they defeated the Peoria Rivermen 6-2 in AHL action on Wednesday night.

Carsen Germyn opened the scoring for Abbotsford at the 12:55 mark of the first period. Germyn was able to take a feed from Jason Jaffray and fire a bullet over the shoulder of Hannu Toivonen. Riley Armstrong doubled the lead before the end of the period, finishing off a pretty three passing play at 18:20. It was 2-0 after 20 minutes for the HEAT.

In the second period, Peoria Captain Jan Stastny would get his team within one on the opening shift of the period, as he put home a HEAT giveaway to close the margin to 2-1. But before the period was over, Keith Aulie would drift a shot past a screened Toivonen and the HEAT would go to the third period with their two goal margin intact.

Abbotsford would blow the game open in the third. Kris Chucko, with his seventh, Riley Armstrong with his second of the game and Garth Murray shorthanded in the last minute of the game would complete the scoring for the HEAT, while North Van native Cam Paddock would score the only goal for the Rivermen in the third period, despite firing 19 shots in the frame at HEAT goalie Leland Irving.

Irving would turn aside 38 shots en route to his 9th win of the season and the HEAT improve to 11-9-3 on the season. With the win, Abbotsford moves into a tie with the Hamilton Bulldogs for 3rd in the AHL's North Division. Abbotsford will continue their road trip on Friday at Chicago versus the Wolves.
