Lake County Captains News Release
(Dayton, OH) - The Lake County Captains (42-36) used two José Tena home runs and a Raynel Delgado three-run bomb to beat the Dayton Dragons (41-36) 7-2 on Sunday afternoon at Day Air Ballpark.
A Victor Nova walk started the Captains second inning where they took a 1-0 lead. Nova moved to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a Delgado RBI single to put the Captains in front.
Dayton tied the score 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning on a Mariel Bautista solo home run. The Dragons threatened for more, loading the bases with two outs but could not take the lead.
The Captains regained the lead on a line drive homer in the fifth. Tena led off the inning against big league rehabber Michael Feliz and pulled a shot over the right field wall to give the Captains a 2-1 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning Lake County extended their lead. Tena walked to lead off the inning. With one out, George Valera singled to advance Tena to third base. After a Joe Naranjo pop out, Valera took off for second, intent to get in a run down which would allow Tena to score. Instead the throw went into centerfield. Tena scored easily and Valera made it to third on the error. With two outs Nova walked to put runners on the corners. That brought Delgado to the plate and he belted a three-run home run to right field to push the Captains advantage to 6-1.
Lake County added another run to their lead with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Tena turned on an inside pitch and launched his second home run of the game to right field, making the score 7-1 Captains. The blast gave Tena his second two-homer game of the season.
In the ninth inning, Garrett Wolforth connected for a solo home run to right field for Dayton to make the score 7-2, Lake County.
Mason Hickman (6-5) earned the win with five strong innings for Lake County. He allowed one run on three hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Michael Feliz (0-2) took the loss in relief for the Dragons. He allowed one run on a Tena home run to go with two strikeouts.
After a day off on Monday, the Captains begin a six-game home series against the Lansing Lugnuts on Tuesday. First pitch for the series-opener at Classic Park is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
