Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - The Missouri Mavericks hosted their annual Orange-Black scrimmage on Monday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Team Black claimed a narrow one-goal win with rookie Shawn Pauly netting the eventual game winner.

The Orange-Black game was played in two 20-minute halves with a running clock throughout, and the teams skated at 4-on-4. The open ice afforded both teams ample scoring opportunities, and each registered 12 shots in the opening stanza. Defenseman Dmitrii Sergeev, recently sent to the Mavericks by the St. Louis Blues, opened the scoring for Team Black just over two minutes in by finishing off a two-on-one rush with Shawn Pauly. Reigning ECHL Goalie of the Year Josh Robinson got a piece of the shot but couldn't keep it out.

Team Orange battled back to even the score with a goal by defenseman Samuel Noreau. Reed Seckel worked down the left wing and opened a lane to feed Noreau on the doorstep. His wrist shot slipped by goalie Eamon McAdam with 12:50 to play in the first half. Team Black came roaring back with goals by Radoslav Illo and Pauly to claim a 3-1 lead heading into the intermission. Dan Correale and Gus Young picked up helpers on the goals. McAdam stopped a penalty shot by Luke Juha and a two-on-one late in the first to preserve the lead.

Seckel put one in the goal column himself 90 seconds into the second half and brought Team Orange within one score. McAdam swung momentum back in Team Black's favor with three big stops in succession following Seckel's goal. Moments later Pauly put a wrist shot past Robinson to restore Team Black's two-goal lead, only to see Aaron Bershia chip a shot past McAdam and bring Team Orange within one with five minutes to play.

Despite some late pressure, Team Orange could not manage the tying goal and Team Black claimed the 4-3 win.

Mark your calendars! The Mavericks hit the ice for Opening Night on Saturday, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Indy Fuel. [1]Click here to buy your tickets.
