ECHL Manchester Monarchs

Monarchs Weekly Preview

October 10, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release

BACK IN ACTION The Monarchs will open the 2016-17 season with a two-game series against the Adirondack Thunder. Rich Seeley and the coaching staff are back for a second season, and the roster will have many familiar faces to Monarchs Country, highlighted by the returns of David Kolomatis, Joey Diamond and Derek Arnold.

TIME FOR PAYBACK The Monarchs and Thunder meet for the first two of fifteen games between the East Division rivals on Opening Weekend. Last season, the two teams battled throughout the regular season, with the Monarchs taking an 8-6-1-0 head-to-head record into their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals matchup, but the Thunder took the post-season series, 4-1.

REALIGNMENT Despite taking a tough loss in the playoffs, the Monarchs won the East Division in their first season in the ECHL, finishing five points clear of Adirondack and the Reading Royals for tops in the East. Due to league realignment this season, the East Division is no more, and will now be called the North Division. This season, the Monarchs will need to best the Thunder, Brampton Beast, Elmira Jackals, Wheeling Nailers and Reading Royals for division supremacy.

NEW GUESTS The Monarchs will welcome four new teams to the newly minted SNHU Arena this season, as the Cincinnati Cyclones, Florida Everblades, South Carolina Sting Rays and Alaska Aces will all make their first visits to the Queen City in the history of their franchises.

TICKETS The Monarchs begin the 2016-17 season on Jungle ice Friday, Oct. 14 (7 p.m.), when they host the Thunder, and all fans in attendance will receive a magnetic schedule on their way out of the building.
