Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Reading, PA - Yard Goats shortstop Taylor Snyder had three hits, including a double and 2 RBI, but it was not enough as the Reading Fightin Phils beat Hartford 6-5 on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The game ended when Coco Montes tried to stretch an RBI triple into a game tying inside-the-park home run, but was tagged out at the plate. Outfielder Arquimedes Gamboa fired to relay man Madison Stokes who threw to catcher Nick Matera for a tag on the sliding Montes on a close play to finish the game. The win extended the Fightins win streak to three-in a row.
The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the second inning on a bases loaded walk by starting pitcher Garrett Schilling off Reading starter James McArthur. Reading scored a pair of runs with two out in the bottom of the inning on two hits and an error. The Phillies made it 3-1 with Jorge Bonifacio's RBI double in the third inning. McArthur was lifted from the game after his sixth walk with two outs in the fifth inning and came one out shy from qualifying for a win.
Hartford made it a 3-2 game with a run in the sixth inning off reliever Taylor Carr. Taylor Snyder led off with a double and later scored on a pinch-hit single by Javier Guevarra. Again, the Fightin's answered in the bottom of the inning. Nick Matera cranked a two-run homer off Tate Scioneaux, his first runs allowed this season, to make it 5-2 Reading.
The Yard Goats made it a 5-4 game with Taylor Snyder's two-run single in the seventh inning. Reading added on again in the eighth inning with Matera's RBI single off Julian Fernandez and it was 6-4 going to the ninth. Sean Bouchard came up with a double before Montes knocked him in with a triple and was thrown out at the plate to end the game.
The Yard Goats will continue a 12-game road trip on Thursday in Reading, Pennsylvania and play the third of a six-game series against the Fightin Phils (7:05 PM). RHP David Hill will make his first start for the Yard Goats while RHP Francisco Morales will pitch for Reading. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 FM and newsradio1410.iheart.com. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Donuts Park on June 22 to host the Richmond Flying Squirrels at 7:05PM.
