WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Michael Taylor's three-hit night tied him with Esteban German for the River Cats franchise record of 401 career hits, but the River Cats fell short of the Rainiers, losing 7-5 on Monday evening at Raley Field.

Sacramento scored first thanks to two Rainiers defensive gaffes as Jemile Weeks reached and advanced to second on a fielding error from third baseman Robert Andino. Weeks then advanced to third on a Grant Green groundout, and came around to score on a wild pitch from Tacoma starting pitcher James Paxton.

The lead didn't last long, however, as the Rainiers put seven runs on the board in the following frame, taking a 7-1 lead. The inning saw six hits-three doubles, two singles, and a home run from the rehabbing Franklin Gutierrez-and knocked starter Andrew Werner (6-9) out of the game.

The second River Cats run came on Taylor's record-tying hit-a solo home run to right-center field in the seventh inning. Sacramento rallied in the bottom of the ninth, plating three runs, but they fell just short of a win, losing 7-5.

Taylor finished 3-for-4 with a run, an RBI and his seventh home run of the season. Green and Stephen Vogt each went 2-for-4 with their team's only other extra-base hits-Green's eighth-inning triple and Vogt's ninth-inning double. Werner was charged with all seven runs, giving up eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts in four innings.

The win was awarded to Paxton (4-5), who gave up one unearned run in six innings, allowing just four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Gutierrez finished 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

The Cats now embark on a four-game road trip to Salt Lake City where they will take on the Bees at 6:05 p.m. when righty Bruce Billings (8-3, 3.92 ERA) starts opposite Salt Lake righty Matt Shoemaker (5-9, 4.86 ERA) at Spring Mobile Ballpark.

The River Cats then return home on June 22 for their longest homestand of the season. The 11-game slate will feature various promotions including the team's 1,000th home game, two bobblehead giveaways, a really towel giveaway and four fireworks shows including the July 3 Independence Day Celebration.
