Albuquerque, NM - The Isotopes fell behind nine runs after the first frame and then tied it at 11 to finish the seventh inning but an eighth inning homer by the Rainiers' Joe Odom propelled them to a 12-11 triumph in the series finale Sunday afternoon.
Despite the loss, Albuquerque won their first series of the year, 4-2.
After two blank frames, the Isotopes plated six runs in the third. Wynton Bernard got things going with a solo shot, his first of the year. Ryan Vilade brought home another run on an RBI single. The big blow came off the bat off Carlos Pérez, a three-run shot to left. Bret Boswell capped the frame with an RBI single.
The following inning Albuquerque (5-7) scored two more behind a Tim Lopes RBI double and Elehuris Montero RBI single, bringing the score to 9-8 in favor of Tacoma (4-8).
The Rainiers scored two in the top of the seventh but a Brian Bouchard RBI triple and Boswell two-run clout tied it at 11.
Odom's homer in the eighth proved to be the difference.
Albuquerque's starter Frank Duncan lasted just 0.1 innings after allowing seven runs on five hits and one homer.
Robert Stephenson and Lucas Gilbreath both pitched scoreless frames in their rehab assignments.
Topes Scope: -The Isotopes plated 43 runs and tallied 53 hits through the first four innings during the six-game series. -The eight runs allowed in the first inning by the Isotopes are the second-most in team history. On six occasions, they have allowed 10, the last occurrence being Sept. 4, 2017 at Reno.
-The six runs the Topes scored in the third inning tied the most runs plated in one frame this season. It happened for the first time on April 12 vs. Tacoma.
-With the 14 hits today, the Isotopes registered double-digit hits in every game this series.
-Boswell tallied three RBI on the day. It was his first three RBI game since Sept. 8, 2019, with Double-A Hartford.
-Pérez also drove in three runs, his second three RBI effort in his last three games.
-Over Lopes' last six games, he is hitting .500 (14x28) with four doubles, one triple, one homer and six RBI.
-Bernard has played in just seven games but accumulated a .500 average (9x18) with six RBI, two doubles, one triple and one dinger.
On Deck: The Isotopes have Monday off and then begin a six-game series with the Round Rock Express Tuesday at 6:05 pm MT.
