Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Albuquerque, NM - The Tacoma Rainiers (4-8) won the opener and finale of their six-game road trip visiting the Albuquerque Isotopes (5-7), and snapped a four-game losing skid Sunday afternoon by a 12-11 final in a game that featured 27 hits.

Tacoma batted 13 times in the first inning, and scored nine runs. It was the biggest Rainiers inning since May 13 of last season, when the 2021 Triple-A West Champions scored 10 in the seventh at Salt Lake (won 15-5). Erick Mejia (RBI double, single) and Steven Souza (RBI single, RBI double) each had two hits. Mason McCoy stroked a two-run double and Marcus Wilson drilled a three-run homer. Arturo Guerrero, added to the Rainiers roster earlier in the day, followed Wilson with a solo shot on the first pitch he saw in his Triple-A debut, for the ninth run. Both home runs were to centerfield, and were the first of the season for each player.

It was quickly a game again in the third, as the home side put up six runs with 10 batters and seven hits in the notoriously thin Albuquerque air. Wynton Bernard (solo shot, his first) and Carlos Perez (three-run, his second) each homered for the Isotopes in the frame. It was a one-run ballgame after four innings, courtesy of an RBI double by former Rainier Tim Lopes (2019) and an Elehuris Montero run-scoring single.

Tacoma padded the suddenly slim lead in the seventh with their first runs since the first inning; Kevin Padlo and Wilson each walked, and came home on RBI singles from Guerrero and Forrest Wall for an 11-8 advantage. But ABQ struck right back in the home half of the inning. Sean Bouchard stroked his second triple of the game to score a leadoff walk, and Bret Boswell homered a batter later, his first and a two-run shot to tie the game 11-11.

With that score in the eighth, Joe Odom teed off on his fourth homer in five games, all to the left field alley. The Rainiers catcher put Tacoma back in front 12-11.

Rainiers RHP Penn Murfee protected the slimmest of margins with a 1-2-3 ninth, securing his second save in as many opportunities. In five appearances thus far, Murfee has yet to allow a run over 8.0 IP, and has surrendered only one hit and two walks while striking out 10.

The Rainiers are off on Monday. They'll open their second homestand of 2022 on Tuesday, as the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (Houston Astros) visit Cheney Stadium for the first time in their history as a Triple-A club. RHP Asher Wojciechowski is scheduled to start for Tacoma; LHP Jonathan Bermudez will go for Sugar Land.

Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto will have full coverage on TacomaRainiers.com. All 2022 Rainiers games, home and away, can also be heard for free on the MiLB First Pitch app. HD video broadcasts of every home game can be viewed with a MiLB.TV subscription.
