KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones have announced the signing of Brad Furnish, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound left-handed pitcher from Keller, Texas.

Furnish, 27, pitched most recently in the Atlantic League for the Bridgeport Bluefish, a club that's included former Major League players Shea Hillenbrand, Joey Gathright and Juan Rincon this season. With Bridgeport, Furnish appeared in just three games. Earlier this season, Furnish was in the Chicago White Sox organization, where he'd spent 2011, also. Two years ago, he was with Gary SouthShore, where he was teammates with current T-Bones pitching coach Andy Shipman.

Furnish, who started his collegiate career at the University of Nebraska before transferring to Texas Christian University, began his professional career in 2006, when the St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the second round (54th overall) of the 2006 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

"Brad gives us an experienced guy who's been used in long relief and as a set-up man," said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. "Adding another lefty should balance out our bullpen, and give us some flexibility with how we use Steve Kent (the other left hander) out there."

In 172 games, Furnish has a career professional record of 27-29 and a 4.42 ERA, with 418 strikeouts and 242 walks. He reached the Double-A level in 2008 and '09, while with the St. Louis organization.

Furnish is scheduled to be in uniform tonight for the T-Bones as they begin a three-game home series against division foe Sioux City.

To make room for Furnish, the T-Bones placed pitchers Dan Kickham and Matt Foust on Irrevocable Waivers for the purpose of giving them their unconditional release.
