Ryan Mitchell named Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week

AMARILLO, TX - The American Association of Independent Baseball has named Amarillo Sox starting pitcher Ryan Mitchell as the Pitcher of the Week.
The accolade is the first for Mitchell, chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistician for the league. Sox batters Matt Tucker and Tim Alberts have previously been named as Batters of the Week in the 2012 season.
The 6-5, 225 lbs right-hander is in his second season with the Sox after previously spending a season with the Amarillo Dillas in the United League. The Magnolia, Texas native is 7-0 with a 4.02 ERA on the season with 61 strikeouts in 65 innings.
The Sox are 8-1 in Mitchell's last nine starts. Additionally, he has struck out five or more batters in eight of the last nine starts. His best game came on Saturday, July 13 against the Laredo Lemurs. Mitchell allowed only three baserunners all game and pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout.
The honor is the first time a Sox pitcher has been named the Pitcher of the Week since the Sox entered the American Association in 2011.

Monday, Amarillo will take on the El Paso Diablos for the opening game of the three-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on Ustream via www.amarillosox.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
