El Paso Diablos News Release

EL PASO, TX- Scott Hodsdon pitched effectively for the fifth straight start but this time was a victim of a lack of run support as the Amarillo Sox beat the Diablos 4-1 at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

Hodsdon (5-2) went seven innings, giving up four runs on six hits with three of each coming in his final inning of work. The right hander struck out two and walked four in suffering just his second loss of the 2012 season.

Justin Garcia (5-1) was a notch better, however, throwing seven shutout frames for the hometown Sox. The right-hander surrendered just three hits and did not allow any El Paso batters to reach third base in winning his fifth game of the year.

Slugger Tim Alberts broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning with his 11th home run of the season, putting the Sox up 1-0. It remained that way into the seventh, when a two-RBI double by Jason White and a run-scoring single by Harrison Kain extended the Amarillo advantage.

The Diablos scored their only run in the ninth on a solo home run by Reid Fronk off Chase Jophnson, his fifth overall and second in a Diablos uniform. The run snapped a 31 1/3 inning scoreless streak put up by the Sox pitching staff.

The home run was one of only six hits for the Diablos (20-34), who have scored just three runs over two consecutive contests for the first time all season.

Game two of the series is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. (6:05 MST) start on Tuesday, with Reymond Cruz on the hill for El Paso.
