KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kansas City T-Bones have announced the signing of Matt Foust, a 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-handed pitcher from Overland Park, Kan.

The Pittsburgh Pirates picked Foust, who went to Blue Valley West High School, in the sixth round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft out of the University of Nebraska.

Foust spent two seasons in the Pirates minor-league system, where he went 5-8 with four saves and a 4.72 ERA in 36 minor-league games.

"He has a good fastball, but what I really like about his pitches is that he has great command of his slider, which is big-league stuff," said Kansas City manager Kenny Hook. "Plus he offers experience to our pitching staff, which is good for us."

Foust, who'll wear number 36, is scheduled to be in uniform tonight when the T-Bones face the Amarillo Sox in the second game of their three-game series at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. First pitch is 7:05.

To make room for Foust, the T-Bones placed left-handed pitcher Christian Kowalchuk on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.
