Wichita 5, Grand Prairie 4 (10 innings)

Auditioning for the role of hero for the Wingnuts on Saturday, 1B CJ Ziegler came to the plate in the bottom of the 10th with the bases empty, two outs and the score tied at four runs each. Ziegler got the part, sending a 1-1 Griffin Bailey pitch over the outfield wall to win the game in walkoff fashion, 5-4. Ziegler - who was 0-for-4 heading into the decisive at-bat - now has two home runs on the season. Grand Prairie C Zane Chavez also homered, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. He was one of only two Grand Prairie batter with more than one hit, joining SS Yasutsugu Nishimoto, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Laredo 8, El Paso 7

The Lemurs used momentum from a leadoff Ernie Banks Jr. homer to score three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against El Paso, turning a 7-5 deficit into an 8-7 lead. Laredo reliever Jon Hunton then closed the door on the Diablos, retiring a trio of batters that had thus far been 4-for-11 on the night. Banks Jr. went went 2-for-4 as one of four Lemurs to have multi-hit games. Diablos nine-hole hitting CF Kory Drew hit a seventh-inning solo home run in a 13-pitch at-bat, giving his club a 6-5 advantage. Drew went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI.

St. Paul 7, Newark 2

When Saints SS Tanner Townsend crossed home plate in the top of the ninth inning, making the score 7-2 Saints, he put an exclamation point on the St. Paul victory, as well as on his 2-for-4 night. Townsend also had a game-high two RBI, his fourth and fifth of the year. The game was tied at two runs apiece after four frames. But two runs in the fifth from St. Paul and three in the ninth put the game well in hand for the Saints. Bears 3B Burt Reynolds tied the game with an RBI single in the third inning before the Saints' big second half.

Sioux Falls 13, Lincoln 7

The Pheasants scored three runs in three of the first four innings to power their way to a 13-7 win over Lincoln. Sioux Falls DH Cesar Nicolas hit his third home run of the year, batting in six runs on his 3-for-4 night. Nicolas - who also doubled twice in the game - was one of three Pheasants batters with three hits, joining SS Cory Morales and C Al Quintana. The Saltdogs got a game-high four hits from LF Asif Shah, who hit his eighth double of the year and scored the game's first run in the top of the first frame. Shah is now hitting .361 on the year.

Gary SouthShore 4, Winnipeg 0

The RailCats pitching staff allowed just six hits to Winnipeg batters Saturday night, striking out four on its way to a 4-0 victory. With starting pitcher Morgan Coombs throwing only 4.2 innings, reliever Marco Gonzales picked up the victory, throwing 1.1 innings of no-hit baseball with one strikeout and one walk. At the plate, Gary SouthShore got a big night from SS Kyle Haines, who went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in the second inning. The blast was Haines' first of the year. Winnipeg CF Chris Roberson went 2-for-3 and walked once to co-lead his club in hits.

Sioux City 5, Fargo-Moorhead 0

Starting Explorers pitcher Nick Schumacher threw a complete-game shutout, allowing only four hits and two walks while striking out eight Fargo-Moorhead batters, leading his club to a 5-0 victory over Fargo-Moorhead. With the win - Schumacher's third in four starts - the righty from Wayne, Neb. lowered his season ERA to 3.10 and brought his strikeout total to 26. Locked in a scoreless tie in the seventh inning, Sioux City got a leadoff double from C Ray Serrano that propelled the Explorers to a four-run inning. Serrano led all players in hits and runs scored, going 3-for-4 with two runs.

Amarillo 4, Kansas City 2

The Sox got homers from LF Adam Buschini and RF Tim Alberts, never trailing on their way to a 4-2 win over the T-Bones of Kansas City. The four-baggers were the third and fourth of the year for Buschini and Alberts, respectively. Starting Amarillo pitcher Derek Christensen struck out seven Kansas City batters in six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks. The Amarillo bullpen took over in the sixth, and a trio of relievers combined to strike out six more T-Bones while allowing only two hits. Kansas City C Trevor Coleman went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, raising his season average to .321.
