Laredo Lemurs News Release
Laredo, TX - Jeff Vincent's two run double brings in the tying and the go ahead run for the Laredo Lemurs (7-8) in the bottom of the eighth to come from behind for the second night in a row and earn an 8-7 victory over the struggling El Paso Diablos (3-12).
Ernie Banks Jr. started the eighth inning rally with a solo homerun off of starting pitcher Scott Hodsdon to bring the Lemurs within one run of the lead and make the score 7-6. Hodsdon who had worked well for five straight innings after a shaky first was relieved after giving up the homer to Banks.
Geivey Garcia(1-3) came on in relief of Hodsdon and immediately hit Stephen Pearson to put a runner at first with no one out. The next batter Kevin Butler was also hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. Anthony Scelfo would try to sacrifice bunt in his at bat but the pitcher Garcia came off the mound to field the ball and threw wildly to third which loaded the bases for the Lemurs with no outs. Jeff Vincent then doubled off the wall in right center field to bring in the tying and winning run for the Lemurs.
Big Jon Hunton (1-0) who came on in relief in the eighth came out in the ninth and retired the side in order to earn the win for himself and for his team.
The Lemurs will be home to take on the El Paso Diablos on Sunday at Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas. Game time is set for 7:30pm. You can get tickets online at www.laredolemurs.com or by phone at 956-7LEMURS.
