KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The T-Bones scored three runs in the seventh, including two on a wild play on an infield single by Felix Molina, and went on to beat Rockland 7-5 in interleague play Tuesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
With Kansas City trailing 5-4 in the seventh, the T-Bones loaded the bases with one out on hits by Jairo Perez and Trevor Coleman sandwiching a walk by Luis Rivera. Perez scored on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Jones, which moved Rivera to third. Then, with runners at the corners, Molina grounded a slow roller toward second base that scored Rivera. Molina was safe with an infield single, but the second baseman Danny Bomback booted the ball, which moved Coleman to third and Molina to second. Bomback retrieved the ball but then made a bad throw toward second base that scored Coleman. By the time Anthony Davis grounded into the third out, Kansas City had taken a 7-5 lead.
Relievers Josh Hildebrand (2-2) and Chad Robinson (7) shut down the Boulders in the final three innings, allowing only two baserunners. Dustin Loggins started the game for the T-Bones and allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits in 6 innings.
"That was one of the more frustrating games to manage this season because we didn't execute getting bunts down, and then Loggins was cruising but lost some momentum," said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. "Some guys stepped up, though, and helped us pull this one out. In the end, a win's a win, but it definitely wasn't the way we drew it up."
After cruising through the first four innings, allowing one run, Loggins allowed the first four Rockland batters to reach in the fifth. Three of those - Matt Nandin, Donnie Webb and Bomback - scored, and tied the game at 4-4.
Five T-Bones had at least two hits, led by Perez and Davis, each of whom had three. Perez had two doubles, two RBI and scored a run, also.
The T-Bones (37-52) and Boulders (43-44) conclude their three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618 or at tbonesbaseball.com.
