Sioux City Explorers News Release

Laredo, TX-----Laredo defeated the Explorers 7-6 in 10 innings as Brian Peterson walked with the bases loaded to score Stephen Douglas with the winning run. The bases loaded walk came off losing pitcher John Holdzkom who has came in relief in the tenth inning.

Laredo had jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, scoring three runs in the first inning on a three-run home run by John Alonzo.

The Explorers got their first run in the third inning and added another tally in the fourth on a solo home run by Peter Barrows, his 12th of the season.

In the fifth inning, the Explorers chased Laredo starter Greg Wilborn scoring four runs to take a 6-5 lead. The two run single by Austin Gallagher gave the Explorers the one run advantage.

Laredo would tie the game in the sixth inning on a base hit by Garrett Rau that scored Harrison Kain, who had opened the inning with a triple.

The Explorers had an opportunity to take the lead in the tenth inning with the bases load and nobody out, but Yusuke Inoguchi forced pinch runner Jeff Squire at the plate for the first out and then Alberto Espinosa hit into a double play to end the inning.

Sioux City had 15 hits, but stranded eight bases runners in facing Laredo for the first time.

The Explorers and Laredo will play the second game of the three-game series Wednesday at Laredo with game time set for 7:40pm.
