T-Bones Grab Right Handed Pitcher Astin

KANSAS CITY, Kan.- The Kansas City T-Bones announced today that the club has signed right handed pitcher Barrett Astin for the 2018 season. Astin brings five years of professional experience to the T-Bones, including a six game stint in 2017 where he played in the Big Leagues with the Cincinnati Reds.

Barrett Astin, born in Forrest City, Arkansas, comes to the T-Bones following a 2017 season where he played 69 games between AZL Reds and the AAA Louisville in the Cincinnati Reds organization,. Astin last pitched in 2018 with the Louisville Bats of the AAA League. With the Bats, the Arkansas native appeared in five games, working 7.2 innings of relief with a 4.7 ERA with five strikeouts.

Astin began his professional career with the Milwaukee Brewers organization in 2013. After being drafted in the 3rd round, he would pitch in 12 games in the Pioneer League, posting a 4.30 ERA in 37.2 innings with 31 strike outs for the Helena Brewers. In 2014 Astin took the next step up the ladder to the Midwest league, tossing 121.2 innings with a 8-7 record and a 4.96 ERA for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. He would split time in 2015 with the Daytona Tortugas of the Florida State League and AA Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the Southern League. At Pensacola he crafted a 5.63 ERA in 76.2 relief innings with 61 punch outs and a 4-6 record, and while at Daytona, he had a 2.29 ERA and a record of 4-3. He spent all of the 2016 season with the Wahoos where he posted a 9-3 record as a starter boosting a 2.36 ERA in 103.1 innings of relief. He would appear in six games for the Cincinnati Reds in 2017 producing two strikeouts in 8 innings of relief.
