Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas - Angelo Gumbs hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, and the Railroaders overcame a four-run deficit in a 6-5 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at The Depot on Tuesday night.
With two outs and nobody on in the seventh, Gumbs singled up the middle and eventually scored after Trevor Sealey worked Cleburne's (3-2) third consecutive walk. After K.C. Huth reached on an errant throw from Maikol Gonzalez that scored one more run, Alex Polston singled in two runs to tie the game at five.
Gumbs' sacrifice fly came after Patrick Palmeiro singled to lead off the eighth and got to third after Rafael Palmeiro singled down the right-field line.
Jared Mortensen made his Railroaders debut and gave up four runs on eight hits with three walks and five strikeouts over six innings. Cortland Cox earned his second win of the year with two perfect innings and three strikeouts in relief.
Gumbs went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and an RBI, and Patrick Palmeiro recorded his second multi-hit game of the year with two singles and two runs scored.
Polston's two-run single broke an 0-for-15 slide. Cameron Monger also went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Cleburne took the lead in the second when Patrick Palmeiro came into score after Devin Ahart's errant throw found the Railroaders dugout, but the RedHawks scored three times in the fourth and added on with a run in the sixth and seventh innings.
The win was Cleburne's first against the RedHawks, snapping a seven-game skid.
The rubber match of the three-game series is set for 12:05 p.m. on Wednesday. RHP Patrick Mincey will get the nod in his second start of 2018 while RHP Jose Almarante will throw for the RedHawks. Tickets are available for purchase at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
