Syracuse Nabs Series Opener

The Columbus Clippers were defeated in the series opener at NBT Bank Stadium Tuesday against the Syracuse Mets, 6-3. The loss drops the Clippers to 8-13 on the season.

Columbus managed just two hits on the evening, both long balls. Kyle Manzardo clubbed a two-run homer in the 1 st inning, and Johnathan Rodriguez added a solo shot in the 7 th , the fifth home run of the season for both players.

Rehabbing hurler Sam Hentges needed just eight pitches to put away the Mets with a perfect 1 st inning. Connor Gillispie (0-2) suffered the loss after surrendering five runs on four hits with four strikeouts over 6.0 innings.

The series between the Clippers and Mets in Syracuse continues Wednesday with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. Columbus returns home on April 30 when the Toledo Mud Hens come to town for Tanksy Tuesday Dime-A-Dog Night. Tickets are available at ClippersBaseball.com.
