LA ÚLTIMA VEZ

MOOSIC, PA (August 11, 2022) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (57-50) rode an incredible pitching performance to a 4-1 win over the Worcester Red Sox. Clarke Schmidt tossed six perfect innings while setting a career-high in strikeouts.

Schmidt was making his seventh start with the RailRiders this season on Thursday night. His four-seamer, knuckle-curve and slider were on point for all six of his innings. He struck out eleven batters to match a single-game high for any RailRider this season (Ken Waldichuk on June 11 at Syracuse). He was pulled after 78 pitches, with his limit set at 75. Schmidt's eleven strikeouts were the first time in his professional career that he struck out double-digit batters. He set a collegiate career-high with twelve punchouts against Michigan State on March 10, 2017 while in his junior season at South Carolina. He had also struck out eleven batters three times during that same year.

The righthander was given a four-run lead by the time he left. SWB tagged Worcester starter Chris Murphy for four in the bottom of the second. Rob Brantly singled home the game's first run. Chad Bell tallied his first Triple-A RBIs with a double to make it 3-0. Blake Perkins finished the inning with his first Triple-A knock, an RBI single to left to push the RailRiders' lead to 4-0. Richard Rodríguez relieved Schmidt in the seventh. WooSox right fielder Abraham Almonte snapped the perfect game bid with a solo homer with one away to cut the lead to 4-1. Michel Gomez had a 1-2-3 eighth followed by Carlos Espinal who did the same in the ninth for his first SWB save. Murphy (3-2) was saddled with the loss. The RailRiders now have a five-game winning streak.
