Rochester Red Wings News Release
The Rochester Red Wings, playing as the Cocos Locos, won their second game in a row Friday evening, defeating Norfolk 12-5 to tie the series at two games apiece.
RHP Franklyn Kilome had a terrific outing, pitching a no-hitter through five innings while giving up just one run. The Dominican Republic-native's eight strikeouts were his most in a game since July 9 with Double-A Harrisburg.
The Wings got off to a hot start, scorching the Tides in the form of a four-run first inning. DH David Dahl, 1B John Nogowski, and 3B Jake Alu all logged RBI singles, with Nogowski's plating SS C.J. Abrams and Dahl as the Wings went up 4-0.
They opened up a 5-0 lead in the third when Alu reached second base on a fielding error by Norfolk's Robert Neustrom. Nogowski scored as Alu picked up his fourth RBI in the last three games (he would pick up another RBI in the win).
CF Alex Call and 2B Jake Noll registered Rochester's fourth and fifth RBI singles of the night, with Call's being a two-run knock that brought home LF Andrew Stevenson and SS CJ Abrams to put the Wings up 8-0.
The Wings kept their foot on the pedal, as Call and Dahl each hit an RBI single in the fifth to extend the Rochester lead to a whopping 10 runs. LHP Luis Avilan took the mound in the sixth and surrendered the first hit and run for Norfolk on an RBI triple from Kelvin Gutierrez. The Tides cut the lead to 10-2 when Neustrom plated Gutierrez on a right field single.
The Red Wings went up 11-3 in the seventh when Abrams scored RF Nick Banks on a sac fly to left field. It was Abrams' second RBI since his Wings debut on August 5. Alu notched his second RBI of the night with an eighth-inning double that plated Jake Noll as Rochester took a 12-3 lead.
RHP Matt Brill saw the mound in the seventh, giving up a run before LHP Alberto Baldonado relieved him in the eighth. RHP Curtis Taylor closed it out for Rochester in the ninth, giving up a pair of late runs that made it a 12-5 game.
Rochester logged 16 hits in the win, and their 41 hits over the last three games are the most in a three-game stretch all season.
RHP Cade Cavalli will toe the rubber for Rochester Saturday evening in game five of the series against Norfolk, as the Wings look to win three straight at home for the first time since June 2-4. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
