DURHAM, N.C. - Despite plating three runs in the seventh inning, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp fell short 4-3 to the Durham Bulls Friday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Durham (60-49) took the early lead in the second inning. Josh Lowe started the inning with a walk and two batters later, Tristan Gray (27) launched a two-run home run off Jacksonville (60-49) starter Cody Mincey (L, 1-2).

The Bulls added to their lead in the third inning courtesy of a solo home run from Miles Mastrobuoni (10).

The final run for the Bulls was tallied in the fifth inning. Xavier Edwards walked and went to third on an error and fielder's choice that allowed Grant Witherspoon to reach base. With runners at the corners, Ryan Boldt hit a sac fly that scored Edwards to push the Durham lead to 4-0.

The Jumbo Shrimp mounted a late rally in the top of the seventh. Payton Henry was hit by a pitch and Luis Aviles Jr. doubled. Two batters later, Ray-Patrick Didder grounded out but Henry scored the first run for Jacksonville. Following the groundout, Aviles Jr. scored on a triple from Brian Miller to cut the deficit to 4-2. In the ensuing at-bat, Miller scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-3 but the rally stopped there.

Jacksonville's bullpen kept them in the game. Colton Hock and Jake Fishman combined for 3.0 scoreless frames with one hit allowed against three strikeouts.

Jacksonville and Durham continue their series tomorrow with first pitch slated for 6:35 p.m. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. ESPN 690 and ESPN690.com.
