LAST TIME OUT: The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders doubled up the Buffalo Bisons 6-3 at Coca-Cola Field Tuesday night.

The Bisons took the lead against the RailRiders and start Luis Cessa in the bottom of the first. Anthony Alford singled and stole second. The throw to second bounced into center and was misplayed, allowing Alford to score on a pair of errors.In the top of the second with Ryan McBroom on base, Rey Navarro lined the first pitch he saw from Jon Harris over the right field wall for a 2-1 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre lead.

The RailRiders added a run on a walk and two singles in the fourth inning with L.J. Mazzilli driving in Navarro. In the fifth inning, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre connected for three consecutive singles with Bruce Caldwell plating Billy McKinney for a 4-1 advantage. Buffalo scored twice in the home half of the sixth inning off Cessa. Rowdy Tellez singled in Tim Lopes and Roemon Fields scored on a fielder's choice to cut the RailRiders lead to one. In the seventh with two outs and the bases loaded, Navarro singled to right to drive in two runs, pushing the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre back to three runs at 6-3.

Cessa (1-0) worked six innings on 78 pitches, striking out three and walking one. The right-hander retired 10 straight between the second and the end of the fifth. J.P. Feyereisen pitched a scoreless seventh with two strikeouts for his second hold and Raynel Espinal pitched the eighth and ninth, striking out four, for his first save of 2018.

TANAKA TIME: The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will be getting a rehab start Wednesday night from RHP Masahiro Tanaka who joins RHP Tommy Kahnle, RHP Adam Warren and RHP A.J. Cole as three rehab pitchers for the RailRiders in 2018. In the trio's four MLB Rehab Appearances: 3.1 IP, 9 H (9-for-18, .300 BAA), 10R/10ER (27.00 ERA), 5 BB, 2 HBP (4.80 WHIP), 2 K... Tanaka, an All-Star in 2014 in his first season in the United States, has only pitched two games in his career in the minors -- both coming on rehab with the RailRiders in 2015. He threw a combined 6.0 IP, with 6 H, 3R/3ER (4.50 ERA) and 6 K between May 21, 2015 vs. Durham (7,737 Attendance) and May 27 2015 @ Pawtucket (4,935 Attendance).

BUFFALOED THEIR WAY BACK: Over the last 22 games the RailRiders have owned a 15-7 record to bring them up to 2nd place in the International League North standings. After taking both games in their two-game series up in Buffalo, the RailRiders are 5-0-2 in their last seven series. The RailRiders entered the series against Pawtucket trying to draw themselves back to .500 for the first time since being 19-19 May 17 (Game No. 38) and had been 0-5 in five chances to get back to .500 since May 17 before Friday's 7-4 win. With Tuesday's win, the RailRiders are two games above .500 for the first time since being 7-5 April 15. The RailRiders were a season best 7-3 back on April 13.

WINGING IT: The RailRiders continue to get a strong performance out of its bullpen over the last week-plus. In 10G since June 17, the bullpen arms not named RHP Giovanny Gallegos or rehabber RHP A.J. Cole had combined for 49.2 IP, 29 H (5.3 H/9), 10R/10ER (1.81 ERA). Gallegos had struggled over his last three appearances with the RailRiders, allowing runs in all 3G: 4.2 IP, 7 H (7-for-21, .333 BAA), 4R/4ER, 0 BB, 8 K.

EXTRA SAUCE: The SWB RailRiders are the leading HR-hitting team in the International League with 84 home runs, two ahead of Durham entering play Wednesday. At the end of April, the team had 15 HR in 23G (0.65 HR/G) which was good for 6th in the 14-team I.L. Since then, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has 69 HR in its last 58G (1.19 HR/G) including 33 in 27G in June (1.22 HR/G) which tied with the Columbus Clippers for the league lead.
