
Pigs Drop Opener in Syracuse

A five run bottom of the fifth inning lifted the Chiefs over the Pigs 9-2 at NBT Bank Stadium. Tuffy Gosewisch drove in four runs for the Chiefs and set the tone for the Chiefs offense in Syracuse.
The IronPigs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first against starter Brady Dragmire (1-3). Mitch Walding tripled to put the Pigs up 1-0 and Joey Meneses capped off the scoring with a RBI ground out.
The Chiefs took the lead against Jacob Waguespack (0-5) in the bottom of the fifth inning striking for five runs. Gosewisch blasted a grand slam to put Syracuse up 4-1. Andrew Stephens continued to have success against the Pigs with a run scoring single to put the Chiefs up 5-1.
Syracuse added four runs in the last two frames to take a 9-2 lead. Irving Falu stole home and Yadiel Hernandez singled to put the Chiefs up 8-2 in the seventh. A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth rounded out the scoring for the Chiefs.
Waguespack was lifted after 4 1/3 innings allowing just four hits but five runs. Waguespack struck out three in the outing and walked two. Hoby Milner added 1 2/3 of relief and allowed three hits and struck out two.
The Pigs and Chiefs wrap up their home and home set tomorrow night at 7:05. Enyel De Los Santos goes for his ninth win of the season against Jefry Rodriguez for the Chiefs.
While the Pigs return to Coca-Cola Park over the weekend for a series against the Rochester Red Wings, fans can still purchase tickets for the Fourth on the Field night at Coca-Cola Park tonight.
