Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers fell at the hands of the Toledo Mud Hens in the second game of their series, 8-3, tonight at Fifth Third Field.

Toledo came back from an early deficit to stymie the Clippers' offense, evening the series at one game apiece before they head down to Columbus to decide things.

The Clippers got out to an early lead, striking for one run in the first inning when Drew Maggi walked and came around to score on a wild pitch.

Ahead 1-0, Eric Haase added to the Columbus lead in the second inning when he delivered an RBI double to extend the lead to 2-0.

Toledo roared back in the bottom of the third after Jacob Robson kicked things off with an RBI single off Shao-Ching Chiang to score the Mud Hens' first run of the game. Jason Krizan followed with an RBI double, and Grayson Greiner backed that up with a two-run single to take a 4-2 lead.

Robson added one more for the Mud Hens in the bottom of the fourth when he lofted a fly-ball deep enough to score Kody Eaves from third, making it 5-2.

The Clippers cut back in to the Toledo lead in the top of the fifth inning, courtesy of a Brandon Barnes RBI single, pulling them within 5-3.

The Clippers' starter, Chiang, was replaced after the fifth having surrendered five runs on ten hits, while walking one and striking out three.

With Columbus in striking distance, the Mud Hens took advantage of at two-on, one-out situation against the Clippers' bullpen in the bottom of the seventh. Edwin Espinal drove a fly ball deep to right off Cole Sulser, scoring Krizan, which Kody Eaves followed with an RBI single to add insurance at 7-3.

Toledo put one more on the board in the bottom of the eighth with runners on the corners and one out. The runner at first, Dawel Lugo, swiped second and the throw to second from Haase went to the outfield, allowing Robson to score from third for an 8-3 lead.

Columbus went quietly in the top of the ninth.

The Clippers and Mud Hens will travel down Route 23 to Columbus to face off for game three of their home and home series tomorrow at Huntington Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
