Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

TEAM EFFORT: All nine men in the order posted a hit and seven notched an RBI as the RailRiders routed the Columbus Clippers on Friday night, 10-3. Some dormant stars enjoyed breakout days as the team tied its largest run-scoring outing of the season and snapped a season-high-tying three-game home losing skid.

RISPY BUSINESS: Entering last night, SWB had gone 10-for-60 (.167) with men in scoring position over its prior seven games, scoring 15 runs (2.14/game). Last night alone, the team went 7-for-19 (.368) with men in prime real estate.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Over their last three games prior to last night, the RailRiders had amassed 18 hits including 17 singles and one double. Last night alone the team clubbed seven doubles, including two apiece by Aaron Judge and Ben Gamel. The team had only seen an individual player double multiple times twice all season before the duo pulled off the trick in the same game on Friday.

J.D.: Jonathan Diaz entered the Louisville/Indy road trip with a .187 batting average. With hits in nine of his last 10 games, he has lifted that mark by 44 points to .231. Over his last 10 games, he has gone 11-for-33 (.333) plus four walks.

@THE_HIGSTER: Kyle Higashioka doubled home two runs and scored one of his own. The team has gone 4-1 with him behind the plate, pitching to a 1.23 ERA in that time. "Higgy" entered 2016 as a .233 career hitter before slashing .286/.338/.437/.775 in 34 games as the primary catcher for Double-A Trenton to start this season. In five games as a RailRider this season, he has gone 6-for-20 (.300) with three RBIs and his first career Triple-A home run.

SEVERINO TIME: In his first Triple-A appearance in nearly a year, Luis Severino was perfect through three innings on 37 pitches (30 strikes). After a 30-minute stay on the bench during the offense's six-run third, he walked three of the first four he faced in the fourth and all three came around to score. His final line read: 3.2IP, 2H, 3R, 3BB, 4K, 67P/46S. Over 11 starts in his first season at Triple-A in 2015, he never lasted fewer than four innings; only issued a season-high three walks twice; and gave up a season-high three earned runs just once.

FIRST TIME IN A LONG TIME: The RailRiders took two of three versus the Clippers at PNC Field last August. That made for the SWB franchise's first series win over Columbus in NEPA since the last Red Barons swept Dave Miley's Clippers in a four-game set from April 18-21, 2006. The RailRiders must win the remaining games of this set to win it. SWB and Columbus split the 2015 series, 3-3, with four of the games decided by one run. Eighteen of the last 33 clashes between the clubs have come down to a single score with Columbus taking 11 of those close calls. The RailRiders have lost 18 of the last 23 meetings with 12 one-run finals.

PARM CHARM: Earlier today, the Yankees placed Mark Teixeira on the 15-day DL (r. knee articular cartilage tear), transferred Dustin Ackley to the 60-day DL and signed to an MLB contract/selected Chris Parmelee from SWB. Parmelee departs as the team's co-leader in HR (7). He began the year in a 2-for-26 (.077) funk with no extra-base hits and one RBI. In 35 games played since, he slashed .288/.364/.520/.884 with 15 extra-base hits, 20 RBIs and 19 runs scored. The RailRiders have received Tyler Austin from Double-A Trenton. Austin spent most of 2015 with SWB (73GP, .235/.309/.311/.620), playing mostly right field. Mostly a first baseman this year at Double-A, in 50 games he slashed .260/.367/.395/.762 with a team-high 29 RBIs while ranking second on the club in doubles (10).
