Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (29-25) used a three-run seventh to lift themselves to a 6-4 win over the Charlotte Knights (28-28) on Friday night at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte.
In the afore-mentioned three-run seventh, Nick Williams hit a solo shot off of RHP Terance Marin, Cedric Hunter came through with an RBI single and a wild pitch from RHP Phillippe Aumont (0.2, H, 2 BB, K) allowed the go-ahead run to score and give the Pigs a 5-4 lead.
The home run was Williams' sixth of the year.
Marin (1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB) was tagged with the loss for Charlotte and drops to 3-5 on the year.
RHP Frank Herrmann (0.2 IP, H, BB, K) earned the win for the Pigs to even his record at 1-1 on the season. RHP Edubray Ramos (1.1 IP, 3 K) recorded the final four outs to notch his first save.
The Pigs grabbed an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first as Darin Ruf knocked home both runs with a two-run double.
A four-run sixth gave the Knights a 4-2 lead as Carlos Sanchez and Nicky Delmonico each came through with RBI doubles in the inning while Matt Davidson plated a run via an RBI single and Danny Hayes delivered a run with an RBI groundout.
All four runs were charged to Pigs starter Zach Eflin (n/d) who allowed the four runs on five hits while fanning three in 5.1 IP.
Charlotte starter Jacob Turner (n/d) allowed two runs on eight hits to go along with a walk and three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Trailing 5-4, the Knights had runners at first and second with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but RHP Michael Mariot (1.0 IP, BB, K) got Davidson to fly to center and end the threat.
The Pigs extended the lead to 6-4 with a run in the ninth as Hunter led off with a single, advanced to second on a sac bunt, to third on a groundout and scored on J.P. Crawford's RBI double.
Six different IronPigs had multi-hit games: Crawford (2-5, 2B, RBI, R), Hunter (2-5, RBI, R), Andrew Knapp (2-5, R, SB), Ruf (3-5, 2B, 2 RBI, R), Darnell Sweeney (3-3, 3B, BB) and Williams (3-6, 2B, HR, RBI, 2B).
The series continues on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (3-3, 4.53) will be on the bump for the Pigs against Charlotte RHP Chris Volstad (3-4, 4.75).
