
IronPigs Fall to Knights, 8-4

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (29-26) fell to the Charlotte Knights (29-28) by a score of 8-4 on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark in Charlotte.
The Pigs grabbed a 1-0 lead with a run in the second as Brock Stassi reached with a one-out double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Cam Perkins' two-out, RBI infield single.
A six-run second opened up a 6-1 lead for the Knights as Vinny Rottino delivered the big blow in the inning with a three-run shot off of Pigs starter David Buchanan, Carlos Sanchez hit a two-run shot and Nicky Delmonico came through with an RBI single in the frame.
Buchanan (4-4) gave up the six runs on nine hits while walking four and fanning two in six innings of work.
Logan Moore's solo shot in the top of the fifth off of Charlotte starter Chris Volstad brought the Pigs within 6-2. The home run was Moore's (3-4, HR, RBI, R) first of the season.
In the top of the sixth, Nick Williams led off with a double, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Cedric Hunter's RBI single to cut the Charlotte lead to 6-3.
Volstad (4-4) allowed the three runs on five hits to go along with two walks and two strikeouts in 6.0 IP.
Perkins (2-4, 2B, RBI, R) led off the top of the seventh with a double, went to third on a single and scored on a balk charged to RHP Chris Beck to bring the IronPigs within 6-4.
A pair of runs in the seventh opened up an 8-4 lead for the Knights as Rottino and Omar Narvaez each came through with RBI singles in the frame. Both runs were charged to Pigs RHP Severino Gonzalez (1.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K).
RHP Luis Garcia (1.0 IP, H, 2 K) had a scoreless outing in relief for manager Dave Brundage's squad.
The series wraps up on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. as RHP Jake Thompson (3-5, 4.23) gets the ball for the Pigs against Knights RHP Anthony Ranaudo (1-1, 2.91).
