Norfolk Tides News Release

Xavier Avery had three hits and an RBI to pace Norfolk's 13-hit attack, but the Pawtucket Red Sox used two big late innings to outslug the Tides 11-6 Saturday night at Harbor Park.

Avery singled twice, doubled, stole a base and scored a run in the contest, as eight of Norfolk's nine starters collected a hit in the game. Michael Almanzar had two hits and an RBI in the setback, while Michael Yastrzemski added two hits and a run scored.

The Pawsox led the game 2-0 entering the seventh inning before both offenses ignited. Pawtucket plated four runs in the seventh inning and five more in the ninth, while Norfolk scored two in the seventh and four of their own in the ninth frame. The Tides trailed the contest 11-2 in the ninth but actually put the tying run on deck before Ozzie Martinez grounded out with the bases loaded to end the comeback bid.

Making his first appearance since May 17, Norfolk starter Nick Additon turned in a solid start but was saddled with the loss. Additon yielded two runs on six hits over 4.2 innings of work, striking out two without walking a batter. The 28-year-old southpaw now has a 1-5 record despite owning a 3.35 ERA in nine games (eight starts) this season.

Dan Butler hit a three-run homer to power Pawtucket's offense, while Jose Vinicio, Bryce Brentz and Chris Marrero each added two hits and a run batted in.

Sean O'Sullivan (3-2) picked up the win, as he allowed two runs on nine hits over seven innings. O'Sullivan walked one and struck out two.

The Tides will look to salvage a split of the four-game series Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park, with first pitch slated for 1:05. David Hale (0-2, 5.40) gets the start for Norfolk and will be opposed by left-hander Roenis Elias (2-3, 3.52). On Sunday, the first 4,000 fans will receive a collectable photo of Christian Walker, courtesy of Sprint and ESPN Radio 94.1 FM.
