Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
LAST TIME OUT: The scoring woes normally suffered at home have shifted to the road as the RailRiders fell to the IronPigs in Monday night's series opener, 8-1. SWB has lost a season-high-tying four in a row.
HERE COMES THE JUDGE: Aaron Judge delivered the RailRiders' only extra-base hit, their only knock with a man in scoring position and their only run in one fell ninth-inning swoop. The prospect outfielder lined a one-out double to right in that scored Ali Castillo from second base. Judge owns his first Triple-A hitting streak with a hit Sunday and Monday.
SUSPECT SWINGS: On the heels of a shutout loss on Friday and a Saturday rainout, SWB's two runs in the ninth on Sunday halted the team's longest scoreless streak of the season at 18 innings. The team plated a pair on Judge's first Triple-A home run on Thursday against Louisville in the 15-2 loss. Going back to Wednesday's action, the RailRiders have scored five runs over their last 37 innings, including no runs in 34 of those frames.
STREAKING STROKE: Despite a nearly week-long layoff in the wake of being hit in the head with a fastball, Austin Romine has assembled a 15-game hitting streak. He has hit .350 (21-for-60) over his run with 13 RBIs. Four of his five home runs and 21 of his 30 RBIs have come on the road, but his home contact clip (.270) sits even with his road number (.270). Romine surpassed Rob Refsnyder's 11-game run from May 10-21 as the longest by a 2015 RailRider. Romine owns the IL's longest active hitting streak. Only Columbus shortstop Jose Ramirez (17-gamer from June 9-28) and Durham outfielder Taylor Motter (16-gamer from June 3-20) have engineered longer hitting streaks this season. Adonis Garcia set the RailRiders era record with a 21-gamer from July 17-Aug. 30, 2014 that tied for the longest in the league last season. Red Barons shortstop Pablo Ozuna set the overall SWB mark with a 27-gamer from July 27-Aug. 24, 2004.
YIN-YANG: The game's two starters enjoyed decidedly different days. The Phillies' top pitching prospect, Aaron Nola (3-0), tossed five scoreless frames for his third win in as many career Triple-A nods. SWB southpaw Jose De Paula (2-1) gave up six runs on eight hits over just two innings for his first loss since June 27, 2014. De Paula had allowed three runs in 17.2 innings with SWB entering the game.
ROAD WARRIORS: The RailRiders stand five games below .500 at PNC Field (19-24) and 13 games over on the road (24-11). The team has hit .279 on the road compared to a .259 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 179 runs in 35 games (5.1/game). At home, the squad has plated 159 runs in 43 games (3.7/game). The pitching has performed worse on the road (3.59 ERA) than at home (3.47 ERA). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.686), who have won 17 of 21 away from PNC Field.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Cole Figueroa turns 28 today. The Florida native has four multi-hit showings in his last six games played. He has hit nearly evenly against lefties (.281/.378/.344/.722) and righties (.291/.348/.396/.744) along with nearly even home (.290/.354/.344/.698) and road splits (.287/.359/.426/.785). He is the hardest man to strike out in the IL, averaging 18.3 plate appearances per whiff.
