LOUISVILLE Ky.- The Louisville Bats (39-40) blanked the Syracuse Chiefs (27-52) in game two of a three game series at Louisville Slugger Field by the score of 4-0. Louisville brought four different pitchers to the mound in the combined shutout.
The Bats got on the board in the first after Kristopher Negron hit a solo homerun to left field to get an early lead for Louisville. Louisville added two more runs in the second inning after Irving Falu hit a 2 RBI single.
The Bats got their final run in the bottom of the eighth after Falu hit a single to right that got past the Syracuse right fielder which allowed Hernan Iribarren to score from first base.
Offensively for the Bats, Falu was 2-for-5 with 2 RBI, Negron was 2-for-5 with one RBI and Jermaine Curtis was 2-for-3.
For Syracuse, Caleb Ramsey led the Chiefs offense going 2-for-4.
Raisel Iglesias (1-2) started in a ML rehab appearance for Louisville tonight. Iglesias pitched three innings. He gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out three. Louisville's Sam Lecure (3-4) picked up the win and pitched three innings giving up three hits and one walk while striking out two.
Drew Hayes threw two innings and Jumbo Diaz pitched the ninth inning to contribute to the combined shutout.
Taylor Jordan (2-4) suffered the loss for the Chiefs. Jordan pitched six innings. He gave up eight hits, three earned runs, and three walks while striking out two.
Louisville will play the final of the three game series against Syracuse on Wednesday at 7:05 PM. Expected to start for the Bats is left-handed pitcher David Holmberg (4-5, 4.64). For Syracuse, righty Joe Ross (0-1, 5.40) will be on the mound.
